The mansion has nationally important collections of furniture, paintings and porcelain that remains the family home of the Wingfield Digby Family. The castle was used as a Red Cross VAD Hospital for wounded soldiers in the first world war in 1914.
Grade I listed Garden was one of Capability Brown’s first commissions giving us a magnificent English Landscape Garden which survives largely unaltered today. The gardens cover a large area of some 42-acres round the lake, The garden paths all have a smooth gravel surface and benches are located throughout the garden areas. The ruins of Old 12th Century Sherborne Castle can be seen from the gardens.
There is a gift shop and tearoom were you can have a drink or lunch if you wish or take a picnic to eat in the gardens.
