If you speak to a WI member they may tell you about the proposed resolutions that members have been discussing up and down the country. One of this year’s proposals was “Eliminate landfill of medication packaging” which is currently not routinely recycled through local authority collections. This is something BEWI have discussed a number of times and several members head off to Christchurch once a month to recycle blister packs via Win on Waste. Some pharmacies are trialling recycling systems and we were pleased to read that Boots has launched an innovative medicine packaging recycling programme. Over 700 stores now have drop-off spots for customers. This tackles one of the toughest waste problems in healthcare. Branches at New Milton and Christchurch are listed as participants of the scheme (more information on Boots official website).
