To the rescue

At February’s meeting we heard about the incredible work of the Hants and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance. Our engaging speaker, Sarah Pyne, gave an interesting presentation about the multi faceted operation of the charity. Not only are they equipped with a helicopter which can be at the scene of an accident anywhere in Hampshire within 15 minutes but also three Emergency Response Vehicles which will take less than 20 mins. Both the helicopter and vehicles have specialised equipment and are manned by highly trained pilots, doctors and skilled critical care paramedics, most of whom have their work for the charity scheduled into their other working shifts mainly in hospitals across Hampshire and the IOW. Averaging four incidents a day the charity offer emergency pre hospital help in road traffic accidents, for cardiac arrests, assaults and falls to name but a few. The charity need £15,000 a day to support their operation. These funds come from a number of sources but as with all charities have been limited over the last couple of years and are likely to be for a while yet.
From our very generous members who were at the meeting we collected an amazing £273.50.  In total £323.50 has been transferred to the Hants and IOW Air Ambulance. Well done and thank you everyone!
